Mission
The mission of Catholic AI is to make the Catholic Church's accumulated wisdom — Sacred Scripture, the Catechism, the Church Fathers, the Doctors of the Church, and 2,000 years of Sacred Tradition — instantly accessible to any Catholic with a phone. The goal is not to replace the sacramental and pastoral life of the Church, but to support it: to help Catholics study Scripture more deeply, pray more faithfully, and answer the questions their friends and family ask them about the faith.
Sources and grounding
Catholic AI's responses are grounded in authoritative Catholic sources:
- The Catechism of the Catholic Church
- The complete works of St. Thomas Aquinas, including the Summa Theologica
- The Church Fathers — Augustine, Jerome, John Chrysostom, Irenaeus, Ambrose, Gregory the Great, and others
- The Doctors of the Church — including Teresa of Avila, Thérèse of Lisieux, Bonaventure, and Catherine of Siena
- Papal encyclicals from Leo XIII through the present
- Documents of the major Ecumenical Councils, including Vatican II
- Approved Catholic translations of Sacred Scripture, including the deuterocanonical books
Protestant commentaries, secular theological sources, and anti-Catholic polemics are excluded from training so the AI does not learn non-Catholic interpretations of Scripture or doctrine.
Platforms
Catholic AI is available on three platforms: iOS via the Apple App Store, Android via Google Play, and the web at catholicai.app. A single account works across all three. The app supports English and Spanish, with additional languages planned.
Pricing
Catholic AI is free to use. The free plan includes AI Bible chat, verse-by-verse Catholic commentary, the full Catholic Bible, and the Rosary prayer guide. A Membership ($9.99 per month or $99.99 per year) unlocks unlimited AI chat conversations, AI-generated sacred art, AI music, and saved conversation history. Catholic AI is 100% member-funded — there are no advertisers, no outside investors, and user data is not sold to third parties.
Independence and editorial principles
Catholic AI is an independent Catholic project. It is not affiliated with any specific diocese, religious order, or media network. The member-funded model is a deliberate choice: it keeps editorial decisions aligned with the users of the app — practicing Catholics — rather than with advertisers or commercial sponsors.
The app is offered as a service to the wider Church. Its goal is to be a faithful, useful tool for Catholic Bible study, prayer, and faith formation, and to direct users back to the sacramental and pastoral life of their local parish for everything the app cannot do.
